I can’t believe January is already done! I’ve been reading quite a few post reviewing goals and resolutions, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and review my goals for 2015. I did a week 1 results post, but haven’t really reviewed my goals since, so I’ll go through them all quickly.
New Year’s Resolutions
January 2015 – Week 1 Results
Well, the first week of “back to normal” is done. It wasn’t exactly normal, as I actually left work early on Friday and went away for a girls’ weekend with 3 friends, but it was a full week back at work and all the normal activities started up.
For the purpose of my 2015 goals, I am starting my weeks on Mondays, so today is the start of week #2. I don’t think I will normally do a weekly result/update post, as I’m sure a monthly one will do just fine, but because I just started this whole process, I wanted to share some of my results and vent some of my feelings, both good and bad that came from my first week.
I have to admit that I didn’t feel like I was doing very well at getting started on my goals, and was wondering if I had perhaps taken on too much, until I started writing this post. I felt like I was making no progress, and I was already failing. After working through some of the goals, I realized that there were some progress. It also may have helped that I read this post on Blonde on a Budget, I was thinking about forgiving myself, and being positive, and decided that even if I haven’t really succeeded completely at my goals for 2015 yet, they are goals for the year, so if I am making small improvements each day, week, month, etc. then that is actually succeeding at my goal for the year. (That’s a positive spin, right?)
So, I’ll just quickly run through my goals again and review what I have done to get started on them.
2015 – Miscellaneous Goals
Well, I had planned to post this yesterday, but that didn’t happen… and now I’m running late… my friend planned this all day sports watching pub crawl that is starting in 15 minutes, so I didn’t get to spend as much time on this post as I had hoped. Oh well, I guess that shows that I need to set some goals so that I can organize my life a bit better, so I guess that is fitting. Hopefully this post isn’t too scatter brained.
2015 – Health & Fitness Goals
Traditional new year’s resolutions typically revolve around health, fitness and weight loss. I’m not one to shirk the going trend, so I’ll add my health and fitness goals for 2015 to the list.
I would like to think that I’m pretty healthy and fit for the most part. I’m not perfect, I enjoy my fried food (mmmm… chicken wings…) and a good night out at the pub with friends, but it’s all about balance, right? So without further ado, here are my health and fitness goals for 2015:
2015 – Professional Goals
This section of goals will probably be vague as I try and keep myself anonymous, so I’m sorry about that… I would like to think that I am pretty successful at my job. I think I do an okay job, but there is always room for improvement and I definitely need to work on my skill at procrastination. So without any further ado, my professional goals for 2015:
1. Write my Exam.
To get to the next level in my chosen career, I need to write an exam. I’ve been putting it off for probably a couple years now, as it takes some commitment to sign up, prep all my documentation and study the material. I’ve been using the excuse that I have been too busy with work to do it, but that really is just an excuse and it is time to get on it. There is an exam in January, but I feel that it would be too tight, so I’m going to do the one that is scheduled in April. I will make myself a schedule in January to get all my documentation completed and to plan out my study time as well.
2015 – Financial Goals
Okay, let’s get started with some goals for 2015. I had planned to get this posted earlier, but as is to be expected at this time of year, this is the first time I’ve had a minute to myself.
So…My goals… My big ones will be financial for sure, so I want to start with those. Because I’m not totally comfortable putting anything specific online in terms of money, I’ll be doing everything in percentages. This may not work out so well, as it is way easier to just say $500 or something than to calculate a percentage, but that’s what I’m going to try. I remember when Blonde on a Budget moved to percentages instead of straight up numbers, I think it can be easier to relate to as everyone’s location and costs can vary in terms of amount, but percentages work…
2015 – Here we come!
Hello Blog World!
This is the beginning of my journey in the blogging world. I am starting this journey from a pretty good place. I have a great job in my home town, though I do travel for work quite frequently. I am engaged to an amazing man and we are planning our wedding for this August. We bought ourselves an awesome house this year and are working on making it our home. Other than our mortgage, we have no debt. Sounds pretty good, right?
But here’s the thing, I’ve sort of just done all that by being extremely fortunate and lucky. Don’t get me wrong, I do work hard when I need to, but, if my life is this good without putting too much effort in, imagine how good it could be if I tried harder at being better. What if I were to stop procrastinating and stop just floating through life? What if I were to set myself some goals and push myself to be better?
And that, my friends, is where this blog comes in. I have been inspired by the many blogs I’ve been reading over the past few months (like Financial Diffraction and Shoeaholic No More), so I am going to use this blog to keep track of my goals and to hold myself accountable to actually put the effort in to accomplish the goals. The end result hopefully being that I do become a better version of myself and perhaps I will inspire someone else to become a better version of themselves as well. And maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll make some friends in the blogging community along the way. I hope that you will join me on this journey, I know it will be a struggle for me, so I would really appreciate the support.
Stay tuned in the next week as I put my goals for 2015 down on “paper” and work out a plan of attack.
