2017 in Review: Misc. Goals

Winter_Wonderland

As usual, I totally underestimated how busy I’d be over the holidays, so I haven’t finished up all my goals review posts ahead of time, like I thought I would, but here we are on New Year’s Eve, so I figured I’d quickly review my goals for 2017 and see how I did… Then next week I can go over what I want to accomplish in 2018.

For 2017 I gave myself 5 miscellaneous/personal goals.  I did a review back in September, and honestly, I don’t know that I have too much to add my review right now, but I’ll go over each one anyway… Continue reading

Personal Goals Update

At the beginning of the year I made myself 5 personal goals.  I haven’t done any posts summarizing how those goals are going so far this year, so I think it is high time for me to do just that… So, here it goes…

Goal #1 was to visit with friends and family at least twice per month.  I started with this spread in my bullet journal:

Then I moved to my new bullet journal and I never copied that spread over… Well, until now… But I decided to go through my bullet journal and fill in where I did stuff with people that was recorded in my bullet journal (there were probably other things that weren’t recorded, but this is the best that I can do for now…) Continue reading

February Fitness Update

Just because I’ve given up my mini-fitness challenge for February and instead given myself a focus of decreasing stress and a challenge to relax and read for the month of February, doesn’t mean that I’m not wanting to keep up on my fitness.  Do you remember the running goal I made myself for 2017?

In case you missed my original personal goals post for 2017, I have signed up for a challenge to run 1000 km in 2017.  When I first posted about it, I had only been on 1 run, and so my total was 3.5 km.

After that, I can’t say I made huge progress, but since my normal running partner is super pregnant, and my back-up running buddy has had a couple issues with hamstring injuries, I’ve had to rely on my own personal motivation (not the best…) to get myself up in the mornings in time for a run.  Add to that we’ve had some very atypical weather for our area which brought snow and ice to our normally mild climate, I have had some difficulty getting out running…

But… That doesn’t mean I have made some progress… Let’s see my January calendar: Continue reading

Time to Re-Focus

september_refocus

As I mentioned last Thursday, I find the beginning of September does a lot to help me re-focus on my goals and be productive.  It probably helps that the weather has turned a little grey and wet here in Victoria the last couple days.  It also probably helps that I was traveling on the long weekend and had some time to ponder about my goals while waiting for my flights…

Of course, that didn’t help me get a post written in time to post on Tuesday this week.  Hopefully next week I will be back on the twice a week posting schedule.  Until then, I’ll briefly discuss my plan to re-focus on my goals. Continue reading

Biggest Loser Results

Oh my goodness.  Life has just been crazy lately and I am scrambling to keep up… (and, to be honest, I’m not really being successful at it…)  I could blame some of it on the new puppy, but there has also just been a lot going on the last little while.  You’d think that being super busy would mean that my bullet journal would be a huge help, but I’ve been pretty bad at keeping up with it as well.  But, I feel like I am turning a corner, so hopefully this will be where things start feeling a bit more in control.

Yesterday was our one year anniversary.  The year has just flown by.  It doesn’t feel like a year ago that we spent the week up in Tofino for our wedding.  We went out for a nice dinner, but that was pretty much the extent of our celebration.  No gifts.  We don’t need gifts to celebrate.  But one of us got the $200 prize for our extended biggest loser competition

And the winner is… for real this time…

June 2016 Health & Fitness Update (plus the Biggest Loser Results)

I know you have all be sitting on the edge of your seats since I posted that my husband and I were doing a biggest loser competition after we got back from our honeymoon.  So, who has won the $100 bet?  Well… I’ll let you know… but first I’m going to quickly go over my health & fitness goals…

Health & Fitness Goals

Oh, wait… I have nothing to update… because I haven’t done anything towards them!

That’s right… nothing to report.  I have doing some running, and playing some sports, and biking a lot more… but I haven’t registered for another race yet, let alone ran one… To be fair, I did injure my foot a few weeks ago, and have been slow to recover fully.  I’ve been doing some running, but every once in a while my foot pain flares up, and I have to take it easy…

Do you see the week and a half where I went away for work?

And to be totally honest, that one goal (to run 5 races) is really the only specific goal that I made relating to health & fitness.  My habit tracker goals include a few health & fitness related items, so maybe I should be combining those updates with this post?

In any case, I’m not feeling especially fit right now, even though I am filling my calendar with “fitness”.  And that’s probably because I’m not eating right, but that should change with my food journal experiment.

So, now to the results you’ve all been waiting for… And the winner is… Continue reading

The Healthy-Local-Cheap Dilemma

I need some help… Some reader help… How do I balance eating healthy, eating local and keeping on a budget?

With only a couple weeks left in the biggest loser competition that I’m having with my husband, and since I’m not exactly doing well at losing any weight, I decided to concentrate more on healthy eating.  One of my biggest challenges is having easy grab-and-go snacks that are also healthy.

I try to eat local as much as possible, but the local produce at this time of year is a little limited (we are just at the beginning of the season)… the carrots and celery are all coming from California or Mexico… So I’m trying to avoid them… which are normally my go-to snacks… So, what do I do?
