Happy New Year!
Yes, I am well aware that it is the beginning of March, but I can still say “Happy New Year!”, especially since this is my first post of 2020.
As I mentioned in my last post, I am really hoping to get back in to blogging this year. I really enjoyed it in the past, and not only do I feel like it is a nice creative outlet for me, it is also a good means of documenting and staying accountable for my goals.

I had thought I would get started blogging right away in the new year, but life had other plans for me… I won’t go in to the all details of it, but the short story is that my husband is moving up the ladder at his current job, and unfortunately for me, this means that he is now working out of town for 4 days a week (started at the beginning of January). Adding in the time for travel, that basically makes me a single parent for 5 days a week… A single parent who is also working full time and is responsible for the zoo at our house (1 giant dog + 2 cats)… So, needless to say, it has been an adjustment and I’m still not totally sure I have it under control… But that’s a discussion for another day…
So, what are my goals for 2020?
I’m actually not 100% sure on all my goals at the moment because I think I may take a more fluid approach to my goals this year, rather than making big promises in January February March that are no longer relevant later in the year… But, I have a few overarching themes that I want to address…
1. De-frump Myself
Lately I have been feeling fat and lazy and ugly… I know that’s a horrible thing to say about myself, and please don’t take that as me getting down on myself or asking for praise or whatnot. I’m just trying to be honest with myself and give myself a dose of cold-hard-truth to get my butt in gear.
I am pretty sure I am at the heaviest I have ever been (other than when I was 8-9 months pregnant). I am not fit. I don’t have many clothes that I am comfortable wearing. (The zipper on one of my jeans split the other day when I bent over – embarrassing!) And I definitely don’t put any effort in to my appearance. I’m at a stage where I could definitely be in the running for a contestant of that old show I used to watch religiously “What Not To Wear”. (Is that show still around?) It’s time for me to make myself a priority and get healthy.
2. Get Back on Track Financially
When I started blogging and was blogging consistently, I sort of considered myself a bit of a personal finance blogger… And, as a personal finance blogger, it is hard to admit that we have fallen off the wagon, so to speak, and have had to rely on credit cards and our line of credit to keep up on our expenses over the last year and a bit… It’s never a nice feeling to look at the balance in our YNAB budgeting software and see a red negative number staring back at you… That’s right. We’ve been in debt… Not good. I really want to work hard at sorting out the numbers, decreasing spending and increasing income… And also coming up with a long term financial plan.
(I realize that I am not really a personal finance blogger, but I do discuss our finances… which are personal… )
3. Get Back to Blogging
This one should come as no surprise to anyone based on my last post and my statements above… I’ll work out the details on this one as we go…
4. De-Clutter & Organize
I never did finish my last decluttering challenge… And I’ve since collected more stuff… And it’s just going crazy all over the house… We want to renovate and finish the basement, but before we can do that, I have to have my junk/stuff organized and out of there so we can get to work… It’ll be a big job, so I’ll have to set smaller goals to keep myself motivated…
Over the next little while I will go in to more details on specific goals for each of these themes.
How are your goals for 2020 working out?
About as well as yours. LOL The “baby” is definitely growing up!! You’ll get back on track soon. You are a warrior!

A lot slower than expected. We found ourselves staring at a red number in our budget at the end of February too. I didn’t like it at all. Being off track financially makes it hard to do other things – like keep up with blogging. But we’ll get there. I think your goals are great! And it’s never too late to begin a New Year π

Thanks! Aren’t red numbers the worst?!? I hope that we both get on track for our goals… slow and steady wins, right?

The “baby” is getting so big!! Isn’t it amazing how goals seem to be always changing with a kiddo around?!? So many things pull us in many directions.
So far my goals are slowing moving forward. I really think I’m an overachieving goal maker!

Yes, the “baby” isn’t much of a baby anymore… And he’s definitely trying to push the boundaries these days… Terrible twos, maybe?
But yes, things are always changing with him around. Good luck with your goals, hopefully we both are super successful! π
