Mission: Get Fit!

The countdown is on… According to my wedding website, I have 37 days until my wedding!

Time to up the ante, and get fit!  Or at least maintain my current status…

One of my original goals for the year was to lose 15 lbs before my wedding… as of my weigh-in this week, I’m almost back up to my Christmas weight… not good… Don’t worry, I don’t have the unrealistic expectation to lose 15 lbs in the next 37 days, however, I do want to see if I can at least feel like I put in a good last ditch effort to look and feel my best for the big day.

On one of her most recent “Fitness Friday” posts, Writer Style posted this 4 exercise challenge with squats, planks, push-ups and crunches (originally from catch 88).  I was intrigued… and perhaps inspired…

I decided to take a look at what else was out there, and came across two 30 day challenges from the 30 day fitness challenge website.  (They have a lot more, but I was looking for one to add to the 4 exercises above.)

2 x 30 Day Fitness Challenge

I decided to take these challenges and make some sort of hybrid personalized challenge for the next 37 days. (I am so not going to do anything the morning of my wedding, thank you very much!)  So, starting this morning, I am going to be following this “fun” fitness challenge:

Mission Get Fit

I think I made it easy enough to be able to do, while still being challenging enough to be a challenge.  Wish me luck!

What do you think?  Is it too hard?  Too easy?  Have you done a challenge like this before?

  1. Looks solid! Personally I think body weight exercises are the way to go. Compound exercises that work more than your “target group” and you don’t need equipment. Good luck!

  2. What does your diet look like? Recently, I switched over to a low-carb, high protein and fat diet and I have been loving the results! I would consider myself a skinnier young man, however, I have comfortably tightened my belt by two notches in the past month!

I am all for exercising, but I am a firm believer that abs are made in the kitchen! (But also at the gym)

    • You have a very good point about diet. I totally agree. Last year I managed to lose a bunch of weight solely because of my diet. I was out of town for work for a couple months and was in a remote area without much time or opportunity for exercise, but the remoteness also limited my access to junk as I had to plan and pre-purchase most of my food. I was going for high protein, low carb most of the time then…

My issue is self restraint… If the junk food is there, then I will eat it… And with my wedding coming up, along with all the celebrations and parties that come with it, I know I will have some issues keeping my eating healthy, so I need to do some damage control by increasing my exercising. Plus, I need to do some arm exercises to get some muscle tone in my arms… I want them to look good at my wedding. 😉

Thanks for sharing the link to your blog. You have some very tasty sounding meal ideas there, I may have to use some of those for the nights when I’m not out indulging in junk!

  3. I don’t do well with 30 day challenge type workouts because I really like to change things up and have trouble committing to a plan. I think the most important factor of sticking with any exercise plan is motivation to do so. With your wedding quickly approaching, I think you have a great reason to overcome any excuses and workout.

I also second the comment on diet. Exercise doesn’t do much to change the way my body looks, but maintaining a diet with a lot of protein and plants with minimal processed items, and drinking plenty of water, really does make a visible difference.

    Good luck!

    • I tried a 30 day ab challenge last year… got to day 5 or 6… so we will see about this one. Day 2 today, and so far so good… However, this one does have a variety of exercises, so I think it will help me keep it going… plus, as you mention, the added motivation of my wedding. For even more added motivation, I printed it out and put it on a clip board so that I can check off each of the days that I do it. I love checking things off on lists!

And yes, diet is important, and I’m going to be trying really hard to keep up on that, but with all the parties and such happening, it will be a test for sure… Maybe I should give myself a punishment of more tricep dips if I eat junk food…

  4. I’ve heard of those 30 day challenges, but have never tried one myself. I also think I would get bored of doing the same thing everyday, even though the intensity would increase each day.

Best of luck to you with the challenge!!

    • So far I haven’t got bored… but it is still early. I hope that I’ve chosen exercises that are varied enough that even though I do the same ones every day, the variation among them keeps it interesting… We will see…

I also should point out that this isn’t the only exercise that I’m doing… This morning my running buddy and I went for a 6k run, then did the day 9 exercises, and then I rode my bike to work… So maybe that variety will help keep me interested?
